Garnier is part of the L'Oréal Group, based here in Paris, and I work on press dossiers for their skincare, haircare and sun protection products around the world.
Like a lot of the work I do, this is designed to be translated into all sorts of languages, using English as a template. That means I have to be very careful to avoid idioms and usages that aren't easily understod, and it means I always have to be conscious of leaving space for languages that aren't as concise as English.
It also means that the UK or the US or other English-speaking countries will change the copy I write to add in those idioms and usages that get the message across better in their markets. Which is, of course, fine - and it's what the French, the Germans or whoever are doing anyway.
I'm not proud.
